What is Volunteers week

Volunteer week is celebrated each year between the 1st and 7th June. Throughout the UK businesses, charities and communities come together to celebrate volunteers and say thank you for their valuable contributions. The week also raises awareness of volunteering, its benefits and the diverse range of volunteering opportunities that are available.

Our volunteers

On average we have 18 volunteers working across our services at any one time. Last year, we supported 24 volunteers to gain valuable experience and training to increase their skills and knowledge but what they gave us was far greater. Our volunteers gave up their time to volunteer, they shared their skills with us and supported us to make positive changes to the lives of those we support and for this we are extremely thankful.

Our volunteers come from a diverse range of backgrounds and have chosen to volunteer for a variety of reasons. For some it gives them the opportunity to give something back to the community or make a difference to those around them. To others it is a chance to develop new skills or build on existing experience or knowledge. Regardless of what motivates our volunteers what unties them is their passion to support the work we do. In return we offer an experience that is both challenging and rewarding.

Volunteers assist us across all areas; working in refuge, the community, administration and our various projects. With training and development some of our volunteers assist our facilitators during courses and even run some sessions themselves. For example our 'craft and self care session'

“Our volunteers are truly inspiring and deserve thanks and recognition for the contribution they make to our organization throughout the year

Charlie Arthur, CEO, Women's aid RCT
