Self care and crafts Did you know we run Self Care and Craft sessions? They take place at our Parkview office and aim to help you feel like your old self again! These sessions are run by one of our volunteers, Karen Slater, who is training to become an Art Therapist. She has a bunch of transferable skills which she brings to her sessions in order to create fresh, fun activities each week. She said: “The sessions are relaxed and accessible to all, with variations to make sure everyone feels challenged and leaves the session feeling like they have achieved something. “Each session starts with a cuppa and a biscuit and includes dedicated time to talk and be heard by your fellow crafters - safe in the knowledge that everyone in the room understands where you’re coming from so you can speak in confidence.” With a mix of arts and mindfulness, the sessions include things like making macrame plant hangers, origami, clay work, painting and much much more. Each session focuses on reconnecting you with your creative side as well as boosting your self esteem. We run these sessions in our downstairs meeting room which is accessible. The room has a sink and aprons are provided when the crafts get messy… but we do encourage you to wear clothes that you don’t mind getting messy just in case. All resources are provided including teas and coffees. This class is created to be accessible to all, but please let us know in advance if you have any disabilities or need additional consideration for your participation in the sessions. Although Self Care and Craft is open to everyone, you do need to book in via our admin office as due to the nature of the class, spaces are limited. The new timetable for 2019 will be posted here soon.
